Director of Public Health

Chief Officer £88,953 to £103,731

Sandwell is a vibrant metropolitan borough in the heart of the West Midlands.  We are the largest employer in the area, delivering a range of services to those who live and work here.  The council is committed to driving forward improvements in health and addressing health inequalities.  Keeping people well for longer is an ambition that is at the heart of the Council vision.  Working in public health in Sandwell is what public health is about - you will have a chance to make a real difference in an area of high need.

From education to commerce and infrastructure, our wellbeing impacts every aspect of how our borough functions. Your vision will drive that forward.  You’ll advise, inspire and reinvigorate our culture on all areas of public health.  We want you to innovate.  We want you to be brave.

With exceptional leadership skills and experience working in public health practice at a senior level, you’ll thrive in complex political and social environments.  As a figurehead of our public health services, you’ll be confident and credible when dealing with the public and media alike, as well as your team and elected officials who will look to you for guidance and advice.

We want you to drive forward improvements in our preventative and treatment services.  We want you to be creative in identifying new ways to reduce lifestyle risks in our population.  We want you to make a measurable difference to outcomes such as obesity, alcohol related harm and smoking prevalence.
